Lewis Smith Lake

    For 17 day Alabama’s Smith Lake boasts water that is so clear you’ll feel like you’re swimming in a giant swimming pool. With its stunning vistas and tranquil atmosphere, Smith Lake is an enchanting destination for swimming and nature walks. This large body of water covers over 21,000 acres and boasts more than 500 miles of shoreline, offering countless spots to take a nice swim. The lake was created in 1961 with the completion of the Lewis Smith Dam on the Black Warrior River. The dam was built by the Alabama Power Company for hydroelectric power generation and flood control. There are several public access points, boat ramps, and parks around Smith Lake that provide opportunities for outdoor activities. Some of the popular parks include Smith Lake Park and Bankhead National Forest.
